Just when you thought you belonged to enough social networking sites…here comes WSJ Connect!
With about 15 million visitors per month, LinkedIn is the top professional social networking site out there. Michael Arrington at TechCrunch reports that this does NOT make The Wall Street Journal happy. (They see 1/3 of the visitors) I also learned that WSJ launched a network called WSJ Community last year on their homepage. And according to Arrington, not many other people have heard of it either.
WSJ is in the process of creating a site called WSJ Connect, enlisting help from Slingshot Labs, internally calling it “LinkedIn Killer.” Not familiar with Slingshot? Well, they are the R&D arm of News Corp, and have built celeb gossip blog, Daily Fill, and MySpace.
Arrington points out, “WSJ Connect is still in the planning/conceptual stages, but there is strong interest to move the project forward. Importantly, it would leverage the WSJ brand but would be separate property and unencumbered by the need for a paid subscription to the newspaper.”
So what do we think here? Do we have more brain capacity left to join yet another social networking site? It will be interesting to see what WSJ Connect can offer, compared to LinkedIn, which I love.
P.S. Last year I came up with an idea for a site that would provide negative feedback on employers, think the opposite of LinkedIn recommendations. For example, something like “Johnny shows up late for work” would help the HR department weed through the millions of resumes they receive each day. Who knows, this may be the next social networking site to arise, after WSJ Connect.
It would, of course, be called LinkedOut. (Logo thanks to my good friend and amazing graphic designer, Nicole)
